Why This Dehydrator is a Game-Changer

Despite its flaws, the Elite Gourmet EFD319 Food Dehydrator is a solid investment for anyone who loves healthy, homemade snacks. It’s versatile, easy to use, and perfect for busy households.

People 1:
I haven’t had a dehydrator in a few years, but recently, I’ve been growing a lot of herbs hydroponically. I needed something that I could dry the herbs and excess fruit on. So far, it has worked great. I haven’t tried making jerky yet, but that’s on the list.

This has 5 trays that are semi-adjustable. If you just set the trays on top of each other, there is enough room for most herbs to dry. There’s more room if you put them with the teeth lined up. Sufficient for most fruits and likely meat for jerky. I’ve dried several different herbs, such as apple and pineapple. I would recommend getting some mesh inserts if you’re drying herbs, especially herbs like Dill. The grate for each tray isn’t too big, but smaller herbs will fall through without an insert.

Overall, I’ve been happy with it for what we use it for.

People 2:
I was slightlyintimidated about using a food dehydrator as I have never used one. This dehydrator is very simple to use. I’ve now made tropical trail mixes from fresh fruit (papaya, banana, mango) and beef + salmon jerky. Both were simple to make, and I could adjust the temperature quickly for the trail mix. The manual said to experiment with the machine to find what works for you. Even though I live in a dry climate I found it about 12 hours to fully dehydrate the tropical fruits because of the liquid content and recommend dehydrating 6 hours then leave it out overnight to let it naturally dry some then do the rest of the 6 hours the next day; both days I found it dehyrates faster using the low position of the tray. I found the jerky dehydrated fast (1 hour total for the beef & 30 minutes for the salmon) on both the beef and salmon if I smoked it in a barbecue first, giving it a more complex flavour. flavourle 3:
The machine is very nice. It works perfectly, and I made chicken jerky for my dog. It was very easy. The trays are nice, and they’re easy to clean and quiet. I had one like this years ago. And loved it and used it often. I have almost my culinary degree. My daughter is a personal chef. It arrived on time and it is good. I do like it a lot. I moved years ago, so I didn’t have my dehydrator, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to replace it, but after getting it again, I remember how much I missed it. It pays for itself in a couple of uses. Last year I bought dehydrator fruits as a gift. With this machine, I can make the fruits myself for presents. I cook for the police and fire department as gifts. This is a chef-quality product. Thank you. With my dog, it costs like 11 dollars for a page of treats. I can get a whole tray of chicken for 15 dollars and have 88 dollars of treats for that much. The savings are unreal. The quietness of the sound of the machine is perfect. It gives a white noise background, which is very lovely. I highly recommend. But there is no buzzer as far as I can see. The person using this device will have to turn it off. You are responsible for turning off the machine after five or 6 hours. So it is for an adult.

People 3:
Nice little dehydrator. I ordered and received it. I didn’t realise it only had 11″ plates when I ordered. I was replacing a dehydrator with almost 13″ plates that barely had enough space for my needs, so I was disappointed when I saw it. It wouldn’t serve my needs, so I returned it to order a bigger one. But before I sent it back, I decided to test it. First, I like the feature that allows you to increase the stack height on each tray so the one above doesn’t sit right on top of what you’re dehydrating. My old one didn’t have that feature. Next, I like the ability to adjust the temperature. It doesn’t have a thermostat. It just turns the heat on and off at variable timing like a rheostat. I used my digital thermometer to cycle through and check if it hit the temperature ranges shown on the nob panel. It did, but when placed on the highest setting, it had to cycle about 6-7 times before hitting that range. So it builds slowly, but does get there. That range is too high or dehydrating, anyway. 158 degrees. So at $42, I highly recommend if you’re OK with 11″ plates. I’d buy a bigger one from them if they made one!

Bonus Tips: Get the Most Out of Your Dehydrator

  • Experiment with Recipes: Try making fruit leather, veggie chips, or even homemade dog treats.
  • Use a Thermometer: For more precise temperature control, consider using a laser thermometer.
  • Prep Food Evenly: Cut food into uniform pieces for consistent drying.
